The purpose of this blog is to aggressively promote the ideas that, in their current formulation, are referred to as Libertarianism. Another equally valid, historically derived term that has gained a stronghold in current political and economic discourse is Classical Liberalism.  Regardless of the name, the central driving principle is that human beings require freedom, in all its forms, in order to survive and flourish.  Though a necessary condition, freedom alone is not sufficient.  David Boaz, writing in his excellent overview of these ideas and principles, Libertarianism: A Primer , puts it nicely:
Libertarianism is the view that each person has the right to live his life in any way he chooses so long as he respects the equal rights of others...Libertarians defend each person's right to life, liberty, and property -- rights that people possess naturally, before governments are created.  In the libertarian view, all human relationships should be voluntary; the only actions that should be forbidden by law are those that involve the initiation of force against those who have not themselves used force...
