OLS Saturday AM Car Show: Happy 40th, Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera!

With my good friend DE in mind, this week's car show features the Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera, a revolutionary version of the Carrera that was introduced in 1975.  The 911 itself rolled out in 1963, but 12 years later -- smack in the middle of a reactionary response by the government to air pollution issues and a general turning away from the power of the muscle car era -- Porsche fired up its legendary Carrera by turbo-charging it.  And, as they say, the automotive industry was never the same.  Here's a cool excerpt from a FoxNews story:
The mid-1970s were the dark ages of automotive performance, taking on the moniker “The Malaise Era,” which is known for low compression, emission controls and generally excruciating dullness. The Germans didn’t get that memo and, building on years of racing experience using exhaust-driven turbochargers, Porsche introduced the outlandish 911 Turbo Carrera
