The More Doctorates Earned, the More Mozzerella Cheese Eaten?

What?  Well, that's the conclusion one would draw if this chart was sole piece of evidence (click to enlarge):

Actually, the above chart is one of many from a new website that specializes in illustrating "spurious correlations".  The value of a spurious correlation is that it reminds us that just because two variables are related (i.e. correlated), it doesn't mean that one causes the other.  Obviously, the number of CE PhD's awarded has nothing to do with cheese consumption, despite the very strong relationship shown in the graph.  It's a good example of a spurious correlation.  Click here to read more and to access the new website courtesy of i89.
