Weekend Links

Though it's just a start, this is very important:
A state judge in Los Angeles yesterday ruled that statutes giving public school teachers lifetime employment after less than two years on the job and making it time-consuming and expensive to fire bad teachers are unconstitutional.
Glenn Reynolds: "VA scandal exposes greedy socialism."  Not that there's any other kind...

The latest entry in the Foundation for Economic Education's on-going series of Progressive/Liberal Fallacies: The economy needs more central planning.  I find this to be a very common belief among my students, even those who have already taken their economics courses. Scary.

My favorite living philosopher, Stephen Hicks, on "Philosophy and a Century of War".  This is an absolutely fantastic talk and should be required viewing of all undergraduate college students.  The transcript is here, the youtube video here.
