June 17th: A Big Day for Richard Nixon

Two huge events in American history occurred on June 17th and both during the ill-fated Nixon Administration.  First, on this day in 1971, Nixon formally declared the "War on Drugs", an initiative that is still costing taxpayers billions and jailing thousands every single year.

And second, exactly one year later in 1972, five political operatives were caught and arrested in the Watergate office complex trying to bug the Democratic National Committee.  This, of course, led to Nixon's cover-up of these activities and, ultimately, his resignation as President of the United States.
