What is this?


It's a "nail house", the term given by developers for home owners that refuse to get out of the way of development; in the above instance, a highway.  The owners are often called "stubborn nails" while the house itself is like a nail that can't be pounded down.  Most of the amazing photos of nail houses -- available here courtesy of io9 -- are in China, but not all; make sure to scroll all the way to the end to see several great examples of nail houses in America.
