Are large law firms predominantly liberal or conservative?

A: It's not close - liberal.  If you think about it, it makes sense.  Not only is the legal profession the most common background of professional politicians, but making and enforcing laws and regulations is what politicians do.  In other words, lawyers have huge incentives to create and sustain law.  The more laws and regulations on the books, the better for lawyers.  The greater the number of laws and regulations, the more control and influence the lawmakers and enforcers have on the rest of us.  The American Bar Association is one of the most powerful lobby groups in the country, and it is aggressively liberal.  And generally speaking, which worldview tends to promote the use of power to control others? Which worldview thinks large governments -- and the concomitant large numbers of laws and regulations -- are good for humans?  If you'd like an interesting visual display of just how much more liberal large law firms are, click here to see some interesting charts.
