This is the way all medical care should be...

At his blog Carpe Diem, economist Mark Perry reports on a family doctor in Maine who has decided to fight back against the Obamacare Monster by no longer accepting Medicare, Medicaid, or any other third-party payment.  Instead, it's basically cash only for Dr. Michael Ciampi, who was able to drastically reduce his rates since he cut out the tremendous amount of paperwork associated with his previous business model.  As the Dr. notes:
“I no longer work for insurance companies or the government, I work for patients. And to be honest, if more people did this we’d see the cost of health care go down, not up.”
The problem, of course, is that under this approach, Ciampi's clients are paying for medical services twice, since Obamacare makes it illegal to not have health coverage.  As one of the commenters on Perry's post noted, it's analogous to sending your kids to private school: you're still also paying for the state to provide public education. Nevertheless, OLS applauds Ciampi's swipe at Obamacare!
