The DSM-5: Or, psychiatry run amok

Gary Greenberg is a psychotherapist who is on a mission to lay bare the highly politicized and frequently destructive field of psychiatry.  He has written two books on the subject, Manufacturing Depression: The Secret History of a Modern Disease, and more recently, The Book of Woe: The DSM and the Unmaking of Psychiatry.  The Atlantic magazine recently interviewed Greenberg about this last work.  If you're like me and have long been highly skeptical of psychiatry and it's aura of scientific certainty, you'll definitely enjoy Greenberg's comments and insights.  He's clearly not deficient in intellectual courage nor is he afraid to speak direct and to the point.  For what it's worth, I have not read either of his books, though I did just buy Manufacturing Depression from Amazon.

Related: Two weeks ago the NYT ran this article attacking the validity of the DSM-5 as non-scientific.
