The power of economic freedom and the "power of belief"

One of my favorite living philosophers is Stephen Hicks at Rockford College in Illinois.  Hicks has the ability to directly and concisely capture the essence of a topic, transform it into an interesting question, and then provide equally direct and concise answers.

The other day I ran across an older post of his that I had apparently missed and thought it would be of value to the OLS readers.  What I found fascinating about the post is how Hicks takes a relatively mundane topic (comparing the 20th century economic performance of Hong Kong and Argentina) and uses it as a tool to explore the psychology of, among others, his fellow philosophers in academia.  It's not particularly long but it is particularly valuable...check it out here.
